Chapter 7: Putting It All Together

  1. Check the scene.
  2. Use PPE if available.
  3. Check responsiveness.
  4. Call 9-1-1 and get the AED.
  5. Check breathing (5–10 seconds).
  6. If not breathing normally, begin CPR.
  7. Give 30 compressions.
  8. Open the airway.
  9. Give 2 breaths.
  10. Continue 30:2 cycles.
  11. Use the AED as soon as it arrives.
  12. Switch rescuers every 2 minutes if possible.

Continue until:

  • EMS takes over
  • The person begins breathing normally
  • You are physically unable to continue
