Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is one of the leading causes of death in adults in the U.S. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)—a combination of chest compressions and rescue breaths—can dramatically increase the odds of survival. Early CPR provides oxygen and blood flow to the brain and heart, especially when started within the first three to five minutes after collapse. It can also help reduce the risk of long-term damage.
